The Hidden Cost of a Slow Drain
In a commercial kitchen, a restaurant, or an industrial facility, a slow drain is never just a slow drain. It’s a warning sign. It’s the prelude to a messy, smelly, and expensive backup that can shut down your operations, lead to health code violations, and damage your reputation. For years, the only tools were snakes and harsh chemicals—temporary fixes that often cause more harm than good.
But what if you could clean your pipes so thoroughly that they were restored to near-original condition? That’s the power of hydro jetting drainage cleaning.
At Prestige Power Washing, we’ve seen firsthand how this technology transforms how Cary businesses manage their drainage systems. It’s not just about clearing a clog; it’s about preventing the next one. This guide explains how.
“A drain snake just pokes a hole through a blockage. Hydro jetting scours the entire pipe wall clean, removing years of grease and buildup. It’s the difference between a temporary patch and a long-term solution.” – The Prestige Power Washing Team
Why Traditional Drain Cleaning Fails
For decades, the go-to methods for drain clogs were mechanical snakes (augers) and chemical drain cleaners. While they can offer temporary relief, they fail to address the root cause and often create bigger problems.
- Drain Snakes/Augers: These tools simply punch a small hole through the center of a blockage. They leave behind thick layers of grease, scale, and debris on the pipe walls. This remaining buildup acts like a magnet, catching new material and causing the clog to reform quickly—often within weeks.
- Chemical Drain Cleaners: Caustic chemicals attempt to dissolve blockages, but they are notoriously ineffective on the heavy grease and solid matter found in commercial drains. Worse, they can generate intense heat, damaging PVC and older cast-iron pipes, and pose a significant safety hazard to your employees and our technicians.
These methods are reactive, not preventative. Hydro jetting drainage cleaning, on the other hand, is a complete reset for your entire drainage system.
Internal Link: A clogged drain line is often a sign of broader sanitation issues. Our comprehensive Sanitation Services ensure your entire facility meets health and safety standards.
What is Hydro Jetting? The Modern Solution
Hydro jetting is the process of using highly pressurized water to scour the inside of pipes, removing clogs and buildup with surgical precision. A specialized hose with a high-pressure nozzle is inserted into the drain line. The nozzle directs streams of water forward to break up blockages and backward to propel the hose forward and flush all debris out of the pipe.
Think of it as power washing for the inside of your pipes. With pressures adjustable up to 4,000 PSI or more, our technicians can dial in the exact force needed to obliterate any obstruction without harming the pipe itself.
This process removes everything:
- FOG (Fats, Oils, & Grease): The #1 cause of commercial drain clogs.
- Hardened Scale: Mineral deposits that narrow pipe diameter.
- Food Debris & Sludge: Heavy buildup from commercial kitchens.
- Tree Roots: Intrusive roots that can crack and block pipes.
Hydro Jetting vs. Snaking vs. Chemicals: A Clear Comparison
| Feature | Hydro Jetting | Drain Snake (Auger) | Chemical Cleaners |
| Effectiveness | 98% Effective: Scours entire pipe diameter clean. | 40-60% Effective: Pokes a hole through the clog. | 10-20% Effective: Limited effect on grease/solids. |
| Best For | Grease, scale, roots, sludge, sand, preventative maintenance. | Minor clogs from single objects (e.g., a dropped rag). | Very minor clogs from hair or soap scum (residential). |
| Pipe Safety | Safe: Pressure is adjusted for pipe material and condition. | Moderate Risk: Can scratch, scrape, or break older pipes. | High Risk: Can damage PVC and old metal pipes, hazardous. |
| Long-Term? | Yes: Restores pipe to near-original condition, prevents future clogs. | No: Clogs often reform within weeks or months. | No: Fails to remove buildup, offers minimal relief. |
| Cost | Higher upfront, but better long-term value. | Lower upfront, but requires frequent repeat service. | Cheap, but often ineffective and damaging. |
“Clients in Cary who switch from quarterly snaking to semi-annual hydro jetting save money and eliminate emergency calls. The ROI is undeniable.”
The Prestige Power Washing Hydro Jetting Workflow
A successful hydro jetting drainage cleaning service is more than just high-pressure water. It requires a systematic, professional approach to ensure safety, effectiveness, and long-lasting results.
Step 1: Initial Camera Inspection
Before we start, we almost always perform a video camera inspection. This allows our technicians to:
- Pinpoint the exact location and nature of the blockage.
- Assess the condition of the pipe (e.g., identify cracks, breaks, or collapses).
- Determine if hydro jetting is the right and safe solution.
- Select the correct nozzle and pressure for the job.
Step 2: The Hydro Jetting Process
Our certified technician inserts the hydro jetting hose into a downstream access point. The high-pressure water jets pull the hose through the pipe, blasting away buildup. We methodically work through the entire line, ensuring every inch is scoured clean. Debris, grease, and sludge are flushed out of the system and into the city sewer.
Step 3: Post-Service Camera Inspection
Once the line is clear, we perform a second camera inspection. This verifies that the blockage is completely gone and the pipe walls are clean. We provide you with the video footage, giving you 100% confidence that the job was done right.

Who Needs Hydro Jetting in Cary, NC? Key Applications
While any property can benefit, hydro jetting is essential for commercial and industrial facilities.
- Restaurants & Commercial Kitchens: The constant flow of FOG (Fats, Oils, Grease) makes hydro jetting a necessity. A scheduled maintenance plan can prevent costly backups and health code violations.
- Industrial Facilities & Garages: Industrial waste, sludge, and chemical buildup require powerful cleaning. This also applies to clearing stubborn spills. Our Oil & Hydraulic Fluid Removal services often pair with drainage maintenance.
- Hospitals & Schools: Maintaining clear, sanitary drainage lines is critical for public health and safety.
- Property Management & HOAs: Preventative hydro jetting of main sewer lines for apartment complexes and neighborhoods prevents widespread backups and resident complaints.
- Storm Drain Systems: Hydro jetting effectively clears leaves, sediment, and trash from storm drains, preventing parking lot and street flooding.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Is hydro jetting safe for my pipes?
Yes, when performed by a trained professional. At Prestige Power Washing, we conduct a camera inspection first to assess pipe integrity and adjust the water pressure accordingly. It’s far safer than chemical cleaners or a poorly handled mechanical snake.
2. How often should I get hydro jetting for my commercial property?
It depends on your business. A high-volume restaurant might need it every 6-12 months as preventative maintenance. An office building might only need it every 2-3 years or as issues arise. We can recommend a schedule based on our initial inspection.
3. What’s the difference between hydro jetting and power washing?
They use similar technology (high-pressure water), but are designed for different applications. Power washing cleans exterior surfaces. Hydro jetting uses specialized nozzles and hoses designed to navigate and clean the inside of pipes.
4. Can hydro jetting remove tree roots?
Absolutely. We use specialized cutting nozzles that can slice through even thick tree roots, clearing the pipe. A follow-up camera inspection ensures all root intrusions are eliminated.
5. How much does hydro jetting cost in Cary, NC?
The cost depends on the length and diameter of the pipe, the severity of the clog, and ease of access. While the upfront cost is more than snaking, it saves significant money over time by preventing repeat calls, emergency shutdowns, and property damage. Contact us for a precise quote.
6. Can hydro jetting be used for residential homes?
Yes. While essential for commercial lines, it’s also highly effective for main sewer line clogs in homes, especially those caused by roots or decades of buildup.
